Abstract

This work comes from my interest in languages but not in the classic way. I probe into languages with the very newest and oldest form of languages: breath, words, writings, typographic letters and code programming.
With that background, I design a naive machine to produce text, sign and signal.
It's a palimpsest of multiple possibilities, a saturation, a maximalism.
Originally, a palimpsest is a parchment which had been scratch out or erased with a pumice stone. In this manner, it could be reused several times for new writings, “rewritable”.
Parchment was a very difficult material to produce, rare or long to fabricate, then, very expensive time and money wise. By extending the meaning, palimpsest refers to rewriting with an idea of fusion, rebuilding more or less whole primary writings. So, this term could be used in other areas :
visual domain (painting, drawing and so on), biology...
I use the metaphor of palimpsest neither to go in search of origins nor on primary filiation but in this way, to bend severals protocols of writing to link them to each other.
No piece of sound or movie is preliminary recorded on the computer. The whole piece is playing in real time and follows one simple partition divided in three parts.
