Gregory Shakar is an artist and musician devoted to the creation of emotive and expressive electronic art. His installations and musical compositions seek to expose the exquisite humanness inherent in physical, energetic and technological systems. While participating with his interactive installations, viewers have encountered enormous undulating pixels, melodic bolts of lightning and giant sonorous metronomes. With his collaborators, he has composed a symphony performed on the audience's two-hundred mobile phones and music for quasi-harmonic audio-visual environments. Shakar's work has been presented worldwide, including venues in New York, London, Tokyo, Rome, Barcelona, Montreal, Turin and Kyoto. He has served an Artist Residency at the Ars Electronic Center in Linz, Austria and two Research Positions at New York University's Interactive Telecommunications Program where he also instructs graduate courses in physical computing and interactive electronics design. He holds graduate and undergraduate degrees from NYU with coursework in music-technology, classic texts, interactive computational media and electronic art. He is native to New York City where he continues to live and work.
