Having been a programmer for over 10 years, but working on projects for other people (medical service, banking, etc.) first in the UK, then in the Netherlands, I became frustrated with not being allowed to do my own thing.

In October last year I bought a digital camera which could take short (10 second clips) of video with no audio. I thought it would be nice to have an app which would allow me to splice several clips together and add some music. At the time I couldn't find anything in Linux (I am a purist, and a stubborn one !) which could do what I wanted, so I started working on my own app (LiVES). It soon became clear that what I was writing was starting to become a very powerful system, so I continued to develop it, and in May last year I started working on it full time.

My aim with LiVES now is to create the best video editing system for Linux. It is intended to be powerful, but very easy to use with an intuitive and good looking interface. As I was developing LiVES, I of course created some test videos and some of these I would now call pieces of art in their own right (others may disagree...) Since I am sometimes asked to vj with LiVES, I am also adding some simple vj features but the main aim of LiVES is still editing and encoding.

So really, this is my first experience with real time video software, but I think I have found something that really appeals to me and I think I have a natural talent for this. Before I started on LiVES, I had never used a video editor, so LiVES is really one man's idea of how a video editor should be, but of course I listen to the suggestions of others :-)

Anyway that's enough from me, if you want to know more about LiVES, look here.
