Sofian Audry has studied Computer Science at University of Montreal (2001) where he has completed a B. Sc. in 2001 and an M. Sc. in 2003 (Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning). Since 2004, his practice has been focused on interactive web-based works and installations. He lives and works in Montreal.
Process and behavior are the artist's main material and object of research. His installation project Flag (2007) proposes an interactive experience that illustrates dynamics of choice and perception. Trace is a collective project with two artists from Perte de Signal, a three-part installation that refers to the transformation of the livable space. Characters (2005-2006) explores the intimate bond between name and identity through an interactive dictionary of identities the visitor is invited to take part of. In UPDATE me (2005), a metaphorical interface where textual data can be annihilated and replaced allows the emergence of a dialog between anonymous visitors.
His work has been shown in Canada, Norway, The Netherlands and Slovenia as well as on many virtual spaces. He has exhibited at the TENT Gallery (The Netherlands), the V2 Institute for the Unstable Media (The Netherlands), the Laurentides Contemporary Art Museum (Canada), the Gallery 1313 (Canada), the Hordaland Kunstsenter (Norway) and on the runme gallery of software art. He has participated to many media art festivals, such as Piksel (Norway), aluCine (Canada) and Artivistic (Canada).
Sofian Audry is an active member of the Perte de Signal artist-run center. He is also one of the main developers of the Drone software for new media and has contributed many Frei0r plugins.
