The "tourist" behavior can be seen as an agent's behavior. At every step through the day, he/she has to choose what/where to go next. The decisions and the way they are represented would be way better with geographical data. For instance, when the agent decides to go from point A to point C, we could know that he/she has to get to point B in between; that could be represented by playing a video sequence in the middle. 0 *User position on an electronic floor affects the agent's decisions*. The idea would be to build an electronic floor (we know how to do this) that could tell us the position(s) of users on it. We could then project or draw Bergen's map on top of it. The position of the users would then change how the "day story" is built (i.e. it would replace the cardiometer in our proposal). We could make a game out of it e.g. the user has to go where the agent is in order for the agent to move on to the next scene. 0 *User geographical position affects the agent's decisions*. Same thing, but the users are given a device that enables us to track them in the city (we're not sure wether this is what S.O.U.P. can do or not). _________________________________________ Second metting and this are the tasks for this week. Plis join either via the mailing list or this wiki. During the chat we discussed on the condition of the tourist..arent we all tourists in todays "globalized" planet? 0 1) Concept: Work on the question of the "tourist" and try to establish our conceptual stance. 0 2) Technical: Focus on how we will use wireless data iot generate music. Some reading proposals from alejo (S:O:U:P) 0 *(check wikipedia for situationism) and this text from my friend Tapio Makela: http://cfront.org/cf00book/en/tapio-networkedmediatourist-en.html 0 *In Godard's Les Carabiniers (1963), two sluggish lumpen-peasants are lured into joining the King's Army by the promise that they will be able to loot, rape, kill, or do whatever else they please to the enemy, and get rich. But the suitcase of booty that Michel-Ange and Ulysse triumphantly bring home, years later, to their wives turns out to contain only picture postcards, hundreds of them, of Monuments, Department Stores, Mammals, Wonders of Nature, Methods of Transport, Works of Art, and other classified treasures from around the globe. Godard's gag vividly parodies the equivocal magic of the photographic image., Photographs are perhaps the most mysterious of all the objects that make up, and thicken, the environment we recognize as modern. Photographs really are experience captured, and the camera is the ideal arm of consciousness in its acquisitive mood. To photograph is to appropriate the thing photographed. It means putting oneself into a certain relation to the world that feels like knowledge -- and, therefore, like power. /susan sontag
