Bio:
Paris uses his background in Mathematics, Physics and Analog Synthesis to create Geometric, Algorithmic and Audio Triggered visuals using only Open Source tools such as Pure Data (Gem, PiDiP) and Gephex. As part of his collaborative Voltage Controlled project, he recently completed a residency at the Experimental Television Center and has used this experience to create new software patches that simulate the Analog Video Synthesis systems of early experimental video. Other recent collaborations include creating a series of video podcasts for William Duckworth's iPod Opera 2.0 as well as live performances with local NYC 8-bit musicians such as BitShifter? and Nullsleep.
Presentation:
This presentation will consist of showing some very simple techniques that can be used to create video synthesis. The main idea is that one can create video without video clips - just using audio signals. Early video synthesizers took the concepts and flow of signals that were used in analog audio synthesizers and applied them to the video realm. We will see how this is quite simple to do with Pure Data/Gem and that we can build upon and enhance these ideas using the many image processing objects that are available.
