Between industry and culture, art and business
An important priciple for FLOSS-development is access to knowledge and rights to further development. All are invited to participate, and the aim is to make everybody to contribute. But how useful are the parts for eachother? How do the parts contribute?
Bjørn Roksvold:IBM Norway, Sales Manager
Roksvold startet in IBM Norway in 1979, on mainframes like SW and HW. Later he
has had a wide array of possions, as software manager, PC-manager, and sales
manager for technical support. Since 2001 he has been managing the Linux
-strategy for IBM Norway, and is IBM Norways spokesman on Linux.
Vidar Bakke:Skolelinux
After working for Silicon Graphics, Vidar Bakke worked three years in the
commercial public broadcaster TV2, before he returned to SGI august 1999 as a
marketmanager. Bakke has later establiched two companies that reached the
Norwegian stock market. Bakke is generally concerned in software development,
and especially Floss. He has a background in 3D-graphics, realtime rendering
and production of video. For Skolelinux he works with economics and
organization.
Ole Bjørn Tuftedal: Bergen kommune, CTO
The City of Bergen recently migrated many of its servers to SUSE Linux. That
makes Bergen one of the largest public users of FLOSS in Europe, next to
München. The argument for doing so was that the main task public services for
the citizens has to be optmized throght cost-efficient management. Not only
computer related evaluations, but also the fact that this supports a business
model that gives the customer a better possibility to chose within a market.
Jaromil, piksel, artist and programmer
Jaromil is an italian GNU/Linux programmer, author and mantainer of three free
software programs and a operating system: MuSE? (for running a web radio),
FreeJ (for veejay and realtime video manipulation), HasciiCam (ascii video
streaming) and dyne:bolic the bootable CD running directly without requiring
installation. All his creations are freely available online under the GNU
General Public License (Free Software Foundation).
