changed: - Magnetic Identity Liberation Front by Stephanie Brodeur & Darsha Hewitt The Magnetic Identity Liberation Front (M.I.L.F.) is an association that allows individuals to assert their unique identity. Dressed in formal business attire and equipped with a new media apparatus, the Ottawa Chapter representatives Stephanie Brodeur and Darsha Hewitt interact with the public during their advertised social interventions. They encourage willing participants to liberate their ‘personal magnetic identity’ by swiping a magnetic stripe card, from their wallet, through a card reader. The highly guarded information contained on the card is read and input into a computer running an open source program written by the representatives. An abstract sound sequence, specific to the card, is output through a large vintage speaker to reveal the uniqueness of the participant’s identity. Through trust and exchange, the M.I.L.F. engages with members of the community to question issues relating to possible interpretations and transformations of identity. When the representatives cannot be present to facilitate the interaction with the public an infomercial acts as a stand in and accompanies the installation. <img src="face_milf.jpg" />
