Statement:
Minicomputer is a new industrial grade softwaresynthesizer for Linux written from scratch by Malte Steiner in C/C++. It doesn't emulate existing synthesizers but creates new and old sounds in a unique way, giving the usual subtractive synthesis some new twists.
While it was used already for several recordings and one live concert, on Piksel 2007 Minicomputer should be performed the first time together with a custom software to create realtime 3D grafics, which Steiner wrote using the Ogre open source game engine. This software is controlled via OSC and on Piksel a lecture should show how to create these kind of Ogre based applications. Also on Piksel Minicomputer should be released officially as free open source, together with an example of the 3D software with which interested partys can create their own software.
Notstandskomitee is a (post) industrial musicproject Malte Steiner runs since 1991. The live shows were augmented since the early 90s with non realtime computer animations which were played unsynced from videotape. Recent improvements of CPU and GPU performance and the availability of powerfull open source frameworks like the game engine Ogre makes it possible to run now music and visual synthesis synced in realtime from one laptop.
Tech:
- Minicomputer (custom industrial software synthesizer, to be open sourced at Piksel)
- custom realtime 3D visuals software, based on Ogre game engine
- SEQ24 live sequencer
- 64 Studio Linux distribution

for the brave my softwaresynth Minicomputer which was my soundengine yesterday is available in the repository at Sourceforge:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/minicomputer/
http://minicomputer.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/minicomputer/
In the next couple of days I will create autotools so you dont need to edit the makefile to fit your environment.
Cheers
Malte
