Pat(c)hology is a distributed music environment involving local and remote participants that control a patch ( Pure Data ) using an IRC channel and commanding a bot that will send commands to the running patches that triggers the actuation of virtual musicians, creating a virtual distributed orchestra.

The work of modelizing musicians in the form of a Pure Data patch was started some years ago and include a collection of different well-known artists like Otomo Yoshihide, Christian Marclay, ... as they all use very specific and recognizable techniques, the approach is to replace them by a patch, trying to make us feel that the machine and usual tools shape our musical practice and that the human interaction becomes less significant so that it can be replaced by a bot.

Through the IRC chat, we will create a virtual network of performers, all the people connected on the chat, each one listening to the resulting sound through an audio/video stream. The stream will let people listen to the output of the whole and interact with it. Some textual visuals will also be generated from the remote participants.

Software:

Pure Data, IRC, perl bots
