The piece is primarily hardware based, using custom-designed analog circuitry. However, it does use a Microchip (microchip.com) PIC micro-controller to supply timing signals to the computer screens. This was programmed in assembler using a free development environment (MPLAB) downloaded from Microchip's web site.
Equipment I will provide:
- 5 Analog Color Field Computers (control units)
These could be transported as checked luggage, or shipped to the venue separately.
Equipment I would ideally have on-site:
I could provide some of the following items, but they are generally easy to obtain and/or cumbersome to transport. (For instance I can certainly bring /power/ /cords/ or /VGA cables/ if that would be helpful, but they are generally easy to find. However, it would be far preferable to obtain /computer monitors/ locally because they are big and heavy.)
- 5 VGA Computer Monitors (17'' - other sizes would also be ok. )
- 5 powered loudspeakers -- (studio monitors, or could be high-quality computer speaker systems with sub-woofers)
- 5 120cm pedestals suitable for supporting the computer monitors
- 5 100cm pedestals suitable for holding the ACFC devices (see photos on the ACFC web site for examples)
- 5 VGA cables
- Cabling for connecting 5 speaker systems to 1/8th inch audio outputs (just like connecting speakers to a regular computer system).
- 5 power strips with at least 4 electrical outlets each. 100 - 220 Volts.
- 10 IEC standard power cords for powering the monitors and ACFCs?. (These are normal everyday computer power cords.)
